We spend our nights running pub crawls in Nice, so when the team got a weekend off we did the only logical thing: we flew to Lisbon to see how the Portuguese do it. Spoiler: they do it big. Here's our honest take on Discover Lisbon, which runs one of the biggest pub crawls in the world.
Why Lisbon is one of Europe's best nightlife cities
When the sun goes down over Lisbon, the city changes gear. The tiled streets of Bairro Alto fill up, Pink Street turns into an open-air party, and travellers from every corner of the world collide in the same bars. It's loud, it's cheap by Western European standards, and it's one of the easiest cities in Europe to meet people on a night out.
But Lisbon is also hilly, confusing, and spread across neighbourhoods that each have their own vibe. Showing up solo without a plan means you'll probably end up in the wrong bar at the wrong hour. The easy fix? Join a pub crawl that already knows the city.
Discover Lisbon — the biggest pub crawl in Portugal
Discover Lisbon runs what's become one of the biggest pub crawls in the world, and after a weekend testing it ourselves, we understand why. It's a favourite among travellers who want to party, make new friends and see the city's best bars without wasting a night figuring out where to go.
They run multiple formats depending on what kind of night you're after. Here's the breakdown.
The Premium Pub Crawl — their best seller
The Premium Pub Crawl is their flagship, and it sells out most nights. It kicks off every night at 22:00 and packs the group through Lisbon's top bars with free shots, drink deals and a club entry at the end. If you only do one night out in Lisbon, this is the one to book.
The Lisbon Pub Crawl — classic night out
If you want the traditional pub crawl experience with less of the premium add-ons, the Lisbon Pub Crawl runs on the same nightly 22:00 schedule. Still a big crowd, still a great night, just a simpler package.
The Pink Street Pub Crawl — built for socialising
Pink Street (Rua Nova do Carvalho) is Lisbon's most iconic nightlife street — literally painted pink. The Pink Street Pub Crawl runs nightly and is designed around socialising: good drinks, great music, and plenty of people to meet. If you're travelling solo, this one gets our vote.
Private Pub Crawl — for groups up to 30
Coming with a group? Their Private Pub Crawl is ideal for hen and stag dos, birthdays or a night out with up to thirty of your closest friends. You get a dedicated guide, a custom route and the whole night built around your group. We tested the private format with a group of 12 and it worked beautifully.
Themed nights throughout the year
The Discover Lisbon calendar is full of themed nights too. Join them for:
- ❤️ Valentine's Day pub crawl
- 🎭 Carnival party
- ☘️ St Patrick's Day
- 🎃 Halloween costume party
- 🎅 Santa Pub Crawl in December
- 🎆 New Year's Eve, which ends with fireworks over Lisbon
We did their Halloween costume party as a reference since Halloween is huge for us at Pub Crawl Nissa too — and honestly, it was one of the wildest Halloween nights we've been to as a crew.
What makes a great pub crawl (and why Discover Lisbon nails it)
Having run thousands of nights in Nice, we know what separates a forgettable pub crawl from a legendary one. Here's what Discover Lisbon gets right:
- Group size: big enough that there's always someone new to meet, small enough that the guide can actually host
- Bar selection: they rotate venues based on which nights have the best crowds — not a fixed route they're too lazy to change
- Multilingual guides: English is the dominant language but the team speaks several
- Flexible options: Premium, classic, Pink Street, Private — pick what fits your mood
- Themed events: the kind of calendar that gives you a reason to come back to Lisbon
How Lisbon's pub crawl scene compares to Nice
Running a pub crawl business ourselves, we're often asked how different cities compare. Here's our honest take:
- Lisbon: huge scale, Pink Street as a nightlife anchor, cheap drinks, massive international crowd, late-starting nights (22:00 kickoff is normal)
- Nice: smaller scale but tighter group dynamics, warmer weather most of the year, French Riviera glamour, VIP club finales as the signature move, 21:00 kickoff
If you're planning a European nightlife trip, our honest recommendation is to do both. Lisbon for the scale and the Pink Street energy, Nice for the Riviera vibe and the tighter crew feel. If you want to try our side of it, check out our Yellow Pub Crawl and Orange Bar Crawl.
Practical tips if you're heading to Lisbon
When to book
Nightly pub crawls can be booked day-of in low season, but for weekends and themed nights (NYE, Halloween, St Patrick's, Carnival), book at least 2 weeks in advance.
Where to stay for nightlife
Bairro Alto and Cais do Sodré (where Pink Street is) are the two best areas for nightlife access. Everything's walkable.
Dress code
Lisbon's bars are casual. Clubs are stricter — avoid flip-flops and sports shorts.
Budget
Lisbon is one of the cheapest nightlife capitals in Western Europe. A pub crawl ticket plus a solid night out comes in well under what you'd spend in Paris, London or Amsterdam.
