The 14th of July (Bastille Day) is the biggest free public party of the year in Nice. The city puts on a massive fireworks show over the Baie des Anges, the Promenade fills with thousands of people, and the bars and clubs run special nights. Here's how to do it right in 2026.
The fireworks: when, where, how to see them
The Nice fireworks happen on July 14, 2026 at 10 PM, launched from the Baie des Anges. The show lasts roughly 25 minutes. The whole bay is the stage.
Best viewing spots, ranked
- Promenade des Anglais — the classic, free, packed. Arrive by 8 PM for a good spot at the railings, especially between the Negresco and the Casino Ruhl.
- Quai des États-Unis — the eastern end of the seafront, slightly less crowded, same view. La Chapa terrace has a front-row view if you can grab a table.
- Colline du Château — elevated view of the entire bay. Opens late on the 14th for the event. You see the show and the crowd. Magical.
- The beach itself — if you arrive early enough to claim a spot on the pebbles, this is the most immersive view.
- A rooftop bar — Hyatt, Aston La Scala, Le Méridien. Pre-book a table, drink a Spritz, watch fireworks. Pricey but unbeatable comfort.
What happens after the fireworks?
This is where the night actually begins. The fireworks end around 10:30 PM and the city pours into the bars of Vieux Nice. Cours Saleya, Rue Droite and Place Rossetti are all packed by 11 PM. Bars stop taking new customers around midnight. Clubs are at full capacity from 1 AM.
If you don't have a plan, you'll end up wandering around overcrowded streets trying to find a bar that will let you in. The smart move: book a pub crawl in advance for July 14.

Bastille Day tips for travelers
- Book accommodation early. Nice fills up for July 14 weekend. Prices jump 30-50% if you wait.
- Book restaurants by July 10. Walk-in is impossible after 7 PM.
- Tram service is reinforced on the night but extremely crowded after fireworks
- Bring a light layer — sea breeze gets cool by midnight even in July
- Don't drive. Roads close around the Promenade from 6 PM onwards
- Pickpockets are active in fireworks crowds. Keep your phone and wallet zipped.
What if it rains?
It rarely rains on July 14 in Nice but if it does, the fireworks are typically postponed to the next clear night. Bars and clubs operate as normal. Pub crawls run regardless of weather.
