Where to Go Out in Vieux Nice: The Old Town Nightlife Map

Updated May 2026 — the actual streets and bars, in order.

Vieux Nice is roughly 700 meters across. In that small medieval grid, you have more bars per square meter than anywhere else on the French Riviera. Here is how to walk it on a night out, street by street.

Start: Quai des États-Unis

The seafront strip at the south edge of Old Town. La Chapa at 73 Quai des États-Unis is your starting point — sea view, big terrace, perfect apéro. This is where our Yellow Pub Crawl kicks off at 9 PM.

Cours Saleya

Walk north from La Chapa, 60 seconds. You hit Cours Saleya — flower market by day, bar strip by night. Terraces packed from 7 PM. Akathor Pub at number 32 is where the Orange Bar Crawl starts at 9:30 PM. Cours Saleya is also where you'll see the most apéro action — worth a 30-minute walk-through before settling on a bar.

Rue de l'Opéra and Rue Saint-François de Paule

Just behind Cours Saleya. Quieter, more wine-bar-ish. Good for a slower drink before the night ramps up.

Rue Sainte-Réparate and Place Rossetti

The heart of Vieux Nice. Place Rossetti is the gelato pilgrimage (Fenocchio is the famous one, open until midnight). Around the square, bars start to thicken: Saint Riquier is the communal taverne you want to find — long wooden tables, bar games, easy social mixing.

Rue Droite

The main artery of the Old Town. Narrow, medieval, gritty. Multiple bars in 200 meters. Paddy's Irish Pub and Wayne's are both within a short walk — the two anglo institutions of Nice. Live music several nights a week at both. This is where the crowd gets loud.

Rue de la Préfecture

Parallel to Rue Droite, slightly quieter. Mix of small bars and restaurants. Good fallback if Rue Droite gets too crowded.

Rue Sainte-Croix and the late-night belt

Northeast corner of the Old Town. Cocktail bars, hidden speakeasies (Movida, Le Five). Pre-club territory — you go here after midnight to warm up before the dancefloor.

End: Le Pompéi

The nightclub where most nights end. Both our Yellow and Orange crawls finish here at 1 AM with VIP entry. Open until 2 AM, mixed commercial and house. Walking distance from Vieux Nice.

The full Vieux Nice walking route, hour by hour

  1. 9 PM — La Chapa, sea view, first drink
  2. 9:45 PM — Cours Saleya walk-through, terrace pause
  3. 10:15 PM — Saint Riquier, bar games, group warmup
  4. 11:15 PM — Paddy's or Wayne's, live music, energy peak
  5. Midnight — Tipsy Bar for cocktails or Smarties for the DJ warmup
  6. 1 AM — Le Pompéi, club, dance until 2 AM
  7. 2 AM — Walk back via Place Masséna, kebab stop on the way

That route is roughly 1.2 km total of walking spread over 5 hours. You don't need transport. You don't need a plan beyond this. You can absolutely do this on your own, but if you want guaranteed club entry, 4-5 free shots, drink deals at every bar and a crew of 50-100+ travelers doing the same route with you — that's what our pub crawls are for.

Vieux Nice tips locals know

  • Streets are pedestrian after 8 PM — cars stay out of the medieval grid
  • Bars on Cours Saleya have higher apéro prices than bars on Rue Droite
  • Public toilets are scarce — most bars require a purchase to access theirs
  • Late-night food: kebab places on Place Masséna, open until 3 AM
  • The walk back along the Promenade des Anglais is well-lit and safe even at 3 AM

Best Vieux Nice nights of the week

  • Thursday-Saturday — packed, full energy, busy clubs
  • Sunday-Wednesday — calmer but still alive in summer, easier to get into bars
  • Avoid Mondays in shoulder season — some bars close
